Sailfin Tetra

Please note the males are a bit larger than the females so there can be a good bit of size variation in our current stock.

Remarks: Sailfin tetras are robust tetras with an interesting behavior. Males have long, round, spotted fins with extravagant colors, which are used to display dominance and attract mates. Unlike most small tetras that form tight schools or shoals for protection, sailfin tetras live more solitary lives. Males will choose a small cave or overhang to guard and spawn in after they have attracted females. If two males cross paths and desire the same territory space, it can result in some rather intense sparring if displays with their large fins don’t scare the competitor off.
