Siamese Algae Eater

Remarks: Siamese algae eaters (Crossocheilus oblongus, formerly C. siamensis), also known as flying foxes, are famous for their appetite for blackbeard algae, a common pest in the aquarium. Called "SAEs" by most hobbyists, these fish are fairly peaceful, but can be known to get rambunctious as they grow larger. They may chase or harass timid fish, so it is recommended that they be kept in tanks larger than 40 gallons once they are mature.

They graze on blackbeard algae, which is a nuisance almost every fishkeeper can attest to. It has been reported that a small group of these fish can clean an entire tank within weeks of introduction!
