Metallic Shiner

Remarks: While most shiners are known to be rather fragile, the Metallic Shiner has proven to be hardier than most. Being a Florida native, they also tolerate higher temperatures compared to other shiner species. This makes them an excellent candidate for a warm pond especially within their native range. In the wild, they can be found in many different rivers from central to northern Florida hiding among aquatic plants and wood. Simulating their natural habitat will bring out their best coloration and interesting courting behaviors.
