Tequila Sunrise Guppy (Poecilia reticulata)
Remarks:Ā The tequila sunrise guppy (Poecilia reticulata), also known as the German sunset guppy, is a strain known for its vibrant coloration. Mature males have a metallic white or platinum body and striking yellow and red fins matching the flaming color of a sunrise or sunset. Females usually are more tan in the body with some yellow, red, or orange colors in the fins.Ā
Ā A perfect starter fish! Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are peaceful community fish that reproduce with ease. They are livebearers, meaning the females release live fry rather than laying eggs. It is recommended to keep more females than males, as males can easily harass females with relentless attempts to reproduce, leading to stress in the females.
Ā For most strains, males are very colorful while the females remain a gray or silver color. However, there are some exceptions to this rule so sexing these fish is best done by looking at the anal fin. The females will have short, rounded triangle shaped anal fins with a black spot on the body directly above it, these are her female reproductive organs. Males will have long, thin, pointed anal fins that form his male reproductive organs called the gonopodium.
