Sumo Loach

Remarks: Like many loach species, Sumo Loaches appreciate living in groups of 3+. They come from fast-flowing streams in Myanmar and Thailand, where they live among various sized boulders with little or no aquatic vegetation. In the aquarium, they can tolerate a range of conditions, but require fairly high oxygen content. This results in them doing best in tanks with very high flow. Plants are acceptable in their tank, along with driftwood and smooth rocks.

Unlike other loaches their size, sumo loaches have proven to be rather aggressive. They've been known to chase and harass shy species so care should be taken when choosing tankmates. This territorial behavior can be a good thing, however, if one wants to keep a smaller loach with slightly more aggressive fish.
