Purple Dragon Dumbo Ear Guppy (Poecilia reticulata)

Remarks:Ā  The purple dragon dumbo ear guppy (Poecilia reticulata) stands out with dramatic elegance and rich color. Mature males have deep purple or blue color present in both their body and fins. A subtle, striated, gold pattern sometimes is present in the tail and caudal fin as well. Some males will also have a thick band of iridescent scales on their back making them sparkle when viewed from above. Females have similar fin coloration as well as the large, dark-colored pectoral fins referred to as "Dumbo ears," like the males but have silver bodies instead of blue/purple. Considering both males and females of this strain show remarkable finnage, they make for an amazing line of guppy to keep.

Ā  A perfect starter fish! Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are peaceful community fish that reproduce with ease. They are livebearers, meaning the females release live fry rather than laying eggs. It is recommended to keep more females than males, as males can easily harass females with relentless attempts to reproduce, leading to stress in the females.

Ā  For most strains, males are very colorful while the females remain a gray or silver color. However, there are some exceptions to this rule so sexing these fish is best done by looking at the anal fin. The females will have short, rounded triangle shaped anal fins with a black spot on the body directly above it, these are her female reproductive organs. Males will have long, thin, pointed anal fins that form his male reproductive organs called the gonopodium.
