Nanochromis splendens

Remarks: Nanochromis splendens come from the Congo River and are one of the most stunning dwarf cichlids in the hobby. Males have elaborate fins with multiple patterns and colors. Females have red dorsal fins but lack the long fin extensions and elaborate caudal patterns that males have. Females also exhibit large, pearly-white bellies. They will fight with one another in tight quarters, so ample space and plenty of caves should be provided. Sand is necessary, as these cichlids spend a considerable amount of time digging in the substrate for food and to rearrange their habitat.
