Madagascar Rainbowfish
Remarks: Bedotia madagascariensis, also known as the Madagascar Rainbowfish, are native only to Madagascar. Both males and females have shiny scales along their lateral line, however males have unpaired fins that have red tips. Despite their common name, these are not actually a true rainbowfish. Rainbowfish belong to the family Melanotaeniidae while B. madagascariensis belong to the family Bedotiidae. Both belong to the order Atheriniformes which makes them no more related to each other than they are to other silversides. This amount of separation means that they can be housed with true rainbowfish with no concerns over hybridization with the two groups pairing nicely as they have similar care requirements and behaviors.
