L002 Tocantins Tiger Pleco
Remarks: The L002 Tocantins tiger pleco, as its common name denotes, is one of the many beautiful species from Brazil sporting an attractive striped pattern. Their black or dark gray vertical stripes span across the entirety of their yellow/gold/orange bodies and fins. Darker colored specimens can sometimes really reflect the coloration of their tiger namesake with their black and dark orange hues.
The sections of the Rio Tocantins in which the L002 Tocantins tiger pleco are found are where fallen branches and trees litter the clear, fast-flowing waters. In the aquarium, they do best when these conditions of clean, heavily oxygenated, soft, and acidic water are imitated. As they are a xylivore (a wood eater), lots of driftwood should be provided for them to graze on along with fresh vegetables such as zucchini, carrots, and sweet potatoes. It should be noted some individuals, especially when not given a sufficient diet, will sometimes try to eat plants so they are not always safe for the planted aquarium. Loricariid species like the L002 Tocantins tiger pleco have fast metabolisms that result in the creation of lots of waste so to keep their water pristine and allow them to remain healthy, frequent, large water changes are a must. If one provides the L002 Tocantins tiger pleco with correct parameters, plenty of hiding spaces, and a healthy diet, you will be rewarded with a truly stunning fish.
